Archival history

Personal letters (2) are from a person named Joe to his soon-to-be wife, Hester. Letters were found in the wall of the Roger Kaplan home while it was undergoing renovation. The Kaplan home address is 1000 Wade Street, Highland Park, IL. Mrs. Roger Kaplan dropped off the letters at the Highland Park Historical Society. Date of drop off is unknown. It appears that the original owner [of 1000 Wade Avenue, Highland Park, IL] was Joseph Schoeninger, president of Western Photogravure of Chicago, and his wife Hester...and eventually three children. He is listed as owner on the 1913 Tax Assessment Roll (Highland Park Press, July 3, 1913) with an assessed valuation of $1,200 which was probably the current Tudor, which would have been built in 1912. By 1923 Mr. Schoeninger had purchased several surrounding lots with a total assessed valuation of $4,140 (Highland Park Press, August 16, 1923).

Mr. Schoeninger sold the property to Allan Ira Wolff in 1923 and moved to
Evanston (Telephone Directory of North Shore and Lake County, Illinois
