This collection documents the Metzel family from the Civil War era 1860s through the 1960s. Its contents include a family history, landscape architecture blueprints by celebrated landscape architect, O.C. Simonds, contracts, and images.
A.J. Metzel and his family moved to Highland Park, Illinois in 1912 and developed an elaborately landscaped estate. This collection holds hand-colored images or the estate. The family owned the Cutler Shoe Company in Chicago from 1885-1937. A.J.’s son, Truman became the sole owner of the company in 1929 when his father died. The collection includes a family history written by Truman Thwing Metzel that spans from ca.1860-1960.
The collection consists of family correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, a copper engraving plate, programs and a United States Army honorable discharge certificate to Daniel L. Cobb.

The Stupey family tree starts with Francis Stupey (1815-1890) and his wife, Margaretha Rectenwald (1818-1868). It includes Francis Stupey's second marriage to Rosa Ciechanowski in 1872 and Rosa's second marriage to Gerhardt. The family tree was issued September 24, 1983 and revised December 4, 1983. This brief reminiscence of early years on Michigan Avenue in Chicago and Highland Park, Illinois, recalls devoted paternal grandparents, music lessons and chamber music with the Du Moulin family, a father’s departure, a determined single mother and her male friend, attending Harvard College, and teaching music and possibly English at Hull House.
