Highland Park : a symphony of cultures, records

This collection contains materials relating to the Symphony of Many Cultures program that took place in Highland Park, Ill. from September 1978 to March 1979. This multifaceted six month project was a result of collaboration between several different local cultural and ethnic organizations. The project included a street fair, a book review on FAITH AND FRATRICIDE, an ethnic heritage series,"What I Choose to Preserve" featuring a play entitled ROSA, "The Excitement of Latino Culture," "The Lives and Loves of Six Scribblers," "I'm a Book All By Myself" Oral History, "Dina Halpern- 100 Years of Yiddish Theatre," "I'm a Book All By Myself- Part II," "Teenage Language, Values and Culture," What is Good Society," "House of Worship Walk," "Film Festival" and a "Thanksgiving Community Service." The materials in this collection include newsclippings, documents, brochures, guides, and evaluations relating to this event.

This collection holds the clippings and other family or biographical information received by the Highland Park Historical Society in response to a questionnaire sent to families who lived in Highland Park, Illinois prior to 1940. Files are arranged alphabetically by last name.

This Highland Park centenary project culminated in the publication of "Highland Park : The First hundred years." The research and writing team included Anna Rigndahl, Lillian Tucker, Ruth Rose, Pat Heyman, Judi Nickol, James Wahlman, Chester Jones, and Marjorie Clavey.

Highland Park America's Bicentennial collection

This collection contains publications by Highland Park in 1976 in honor of the American bicentennial. Publications include "Your Guide to Who, What and Where in Highland Park", "Bicentennial Showcase", and "Highland Park: All American City." In addition, the collection contains a program to the opening ceremonies, a program to the Flute and Fiddle CLub in a Bicentennial Concert, a newsletter from the Highland Park Historical Society, correspondance relating to the Bicentennial Commission and a photograph. The Highland Park Historical Society also has multiple copies of the poster that accompanies "Highland Park: All Amercan City." Collection also contains photograph of kick-off event with Mayor Geraci from April 10, 1975. Please note that this is an artificial collection put together by the Highland Park Historical Society.
