History

Jo Fischer (1900-1987), Chicago Sun-Times Cartoonist, was born in 1900 in Highland Park, IL, He studied at the Chicago Art Institue and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He created the cartoon strips "Duets" and "From Nine to Five" which ran in the "Chicago Sun-Times Syndicate" from 1944 to the mid-1970's. In 1963 he and his two brothers Leo Fischer and Maurice "Ritz" Fischer, were presented with the "Press Vet of the Year" award, by the Chicago Press Veterans Assc.
