¨The Modenese Society (Societa Modenese di Mutuo Soccorso) was founded in 1906 at a house on McDaniels Avenue in Highland Park , Illinois . The founders were a small group of 27 laborers from the Village of Pievepelago and its surrounding area. This area is located in the Alpine Mountain Range in the province of Modena in the Region of Emilia Romagna. The Society was incorporated under the laws of Illinois in 1907.

The principal purposes were and still are to aid the members in case of sickness, to help a member’s family in case of his death, and to be united against all calamities of misfortune.¨

The Better Homes in America movement advocated home ownership and specific citizen and consumer behavior. Although The Better Homes in America existed as a private institution, Herbert Hoover served as its advocate during his tenures as United States Secretary of Commerce and President as did other prominent government officials. The organization also encouraged new home construction and vocational educational programs. Babette Kornblith served as local chairman of the Organization's local general committee in Highland Park, Illinios, 1930-1931.
