Ewell, James Cady

Painter-sculptor James Cady Ewell was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 28, 1889. Ewell lived and worked in Highland Park, Illinois for many years and designed the City's World War I memorial. An exhibit at the Chicago Art Institute in 1919 displayed his pen and ink drawings.

Ewell owned Ewell and Thurber Associates, providing the logo designs for companies such as Wilson sporting equipment.

Ewell married Hazel Crow and they raised 2 children in Illinois.

In later years, Ewell founded Ringwell farms where he bred shorthorn cattle in Ringwood, Illinois on the Wisconsin border. He died in Florida in 1963.

Finney, John

John Finney moved to Warren Township, Illinois from New York State in 1852. Finney enlisted in the 65th Illinois Volunteer Infantry ("Scotch Regiment") and served three years in the Civil War theater. Elected Alderman of Highland Park in 1878 and City Clerk in 1880, he served four decades in city government. Finney also acted as Assessor of Deerfield Township for 12 years.
